Wilco, Sun Volt

Haven’t mentioned anything music related lately. That is mainly because I mostly listen to podcasts these days, but I managed to check out two new albums by two related Alt-Country artists. I would certainly recommend them if you like that kind of music:
Sky Blue Sky by Wilco
The Search by Jay Farrar’s Son Volt

I especially like The Search, it gets better and better each time you play the album. It’s been on my mp3 player for quite a while now ;).

Needless to say the two bands are closely related, if you want to read a bit more on their history, check out the Uncle Tupelo’s wiki page.

Search Wilco on bt.etree.org for torrents on live performances.

Jeff Tweedy Soundboard Recording 3/3/2007 on bt.etree.org, 3cd’s filled with goodness 😉 .

Grateful Dead’s Legacy in good hands

The remaining members of The Grateful Dead have finally made a deal licensing their entire (and huge I might add) vault and all rights of merchandise etc to Rhino. I hope we can look forward to some interesting stuff being released on line soon. There is a great article explaining the deal at Marin Independent Journal.

A 10-year licensing deal entrusts Rhino with the management of all of the band’s intellectual property, including its vast archive of unreleased live concert recordings, its official Web site (deadnet), the marketing and merchandising of T-shirts and other clothing and gear with the Grateful Dead brand, logo and likeness, plus videos, CDs and the all-important digital domain – sales of the band’s music via download over the Internet.

Jerry

While it’s still legal ;), there is a nice compilation of ‘Jerry Ballads’ posted on bt.etree.org. Highly recommended ! I converted them to mp3 to play on my iPod to listen to on my way to work and it brightened up my day ;).

Roger McGuinn

Very nice article in the Ledger on Roger McGuinn. He’s releasing a cd compilation of the songs he has released through his website. They are usually traditionals given the ‘McGuinn’ treatment ;). Once saw the guy live with Bob Dylan back in 1987 ! Very nice stuff indeed…
